Finding great places for childhood adventures in the Hudson Valley
There are so many amazing state parks here in the Hudson Valley so many with beauitful beaches for swimming, boating and summer fun. We spent a day last summer at Fahnestock State Park (Clarence Fahnestock) with friends and had a wonderful time. The park itself is filled with hiking trails, camping, pincinicing, hunting, fishing, boating and more. No matter what the season you will find an abundance of family fun here.
In the summer, the jewel of Fahnestock Park is the beauitful Canopus Lake. The sandy shore is massive (rarely crowded), there are a number of picnic area with grills for public use, swimming, restrooms with showers and row boat rentals.
The walk from the parking lot is a little longer than I would have liked with two small children in tow but if you bring a wagon it really isn’t all that bad. We stayed the day, brought lunch and dinner for grilling and after dinner showered and changed the kids into PJs before hitting the road home. Needless to say it was a quite drive and straight to bed for 2 very tired children.
Here are a few more photos from our adventure at the Lake:
